An Eye Opening Piece
Okay, I signed up for Twitter about a year ago myself, much like the author over at seobook. Until I considered it in the light shown by seobook.com though, I didn’t really comprehend why I should be using it. Other than signing up and dropping a link to my website, I didn’t see much value.
Quoted from http://www.seobook.com/are-you-using-twitter-yet:

People can subscribe to get short blurbs from you (and whoever else they like), and the system is almost instantly self-correcting. It is the complete opposite of email spam hype marketing – if you want off the list you get off the list. If I were to spew nothing but hollow hyped up marketing messages nobody would subscribe (and many would unsubscribe). Conversely, if I help give people a laugh (and share the goodness of pearl drink worldwide) people subscribe.
I don’t think the value was put into full light in that article though. The value to me is that at times the web is too anonymous, (and at times not anonymous enough, but thats a different story).
Twitter is a nice step towards having one small place where every body doesn’t act like a forum tough guy, because its too easy to simply stop listening to people who have nothing of value to say. Having contributed to many forum discussions myself, I just can’t stand when they end up getting hijacked by the anonymous tough guy. Maybe Twitter can bring some intelligence to the discussion aspects of the web.
I guess its time to start following some people and seeing what more I can learn.
Plus, while I’m at it… and although I feel pretty strange succumbing to it after all this time of knowing about it, but here goes… Follow Me : http://twitter.com/RazorIT
